Shukura serves as Chief Development Officer at Bonnie Brae, where she leads the organization’s philanthropic strategy, external partnerships, and communications to advance its mission. She partners with the CEO and Board of Trustees to strengthen philanthropic investment, expand strategic partnerships, and drive long-term sustainability, while leading the development of the Bonnie Brae Foundation.
With more than 25 years of experience in nonprofit leadership and philanthropy, Shukura has built and led high-impact development initiatives across the United States, Africa and Asia. Prior to joining Bonnie Brae, she held leadership role at Shared Interest, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing racial, gender and economic justice and entrepreneurship across Southern Africa through impact investment and philanthropic partnerships. Through her work, she helped expand access to more than $136 million in loan guarantees for Black entrepreneurs, women- and youth-led businesses and climate-resilient enterprises.
She earned her undergraduate degree in Government from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Nyack College in New York. Her broader global work has supported initiatives focused on girls’ education, preventing child marriage, child pregnancy, and gender-based violence in Eastern Africa, advancing regenerative agriculture in Asia and expanding access to clean water in Zimbabwe. She has also helped develop leadership and social impact programs connecting students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), preparing the next generation of changemakers in finance, social entrepreneurship, and responsible investing.
Shukura’s work is grounded in a deep belief in the importance of mental health, well-being, and access to supportive environments for all young people.
