Phil Errico has a long & distinguished career in residential care – actually starting as a child care counselor at Bonnie Brae in the early 80’s. His growth has paralleled that of the agency, as Bonnie Brae expanded from treating 36 youth to serving well over 100 on both its main campus and three community based homes during his tenure.
Over the course of his career Errico went from providing direct services to youth to co-leading multi-disciplinary treatment teams as Cottage Supervisor and developing programming as Program Coordinator. He was a founding member of the agency’s Adventure Based Counseling program, and continues to be active in ABC, where as a member of the Citizen’s Ad Hoc Advisory Committee he assisted the state in developing standards in this high risk area. He has trained under Dr. Gail Ryan of the Kemp Institute in Colorado in the treatment of sexually abusive youth and is a certified trainer in Professional Crisis Management.
Well-versed in systems thinking, Errico provides leadership to the largest department in the agency, comprised of well over 100 staff – child care counselors, recreation staff, seasonal staff, administrative staff – that provide services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. He concerns himself with quality assurance and organizational compliance with licensing bodies. He is recognized as an expert in residential care in the state of NJ and has provided testimony within the state on the subject. Errico left the agency in the late 90’s, where as the Superintendent of a nearby county’s juvenile crisis shelter he became intimately familiar with the larger system of care. He returned in 2002 where he has served in his current role since 2003.
