William: “Kate, did he get it, did he get it? Did Santa bring me the monster truck?"
Kate: “Hang on William. Be patient, Santa hasn’t handed out all the gifts yet.”
Soon after, Santa delivered William the wrapped gift which contained the monster truck. After opening it, I watched William throw his arms around Kate, smiling from ear to ear as he thanked her.
William was one of our younger residents. While the older residents may not have had the same kind of reaction as William, I observed many of them high-fiving their favorite staff, bro-hugging, and thanking them for getting that one special item on their wish list.
Every day Bonnie Brae staff are heroes to our boys, but during the holidays even more so. In addition to their daily efforts to help these young men overcome challenges and believe in themselves, at the holidays our staff work hard to create an atmosphere of joy, home and family. They plan dinners and activities, and purchase gifts so that each young man here feels special during this special time of year.
I’m asking you to help our staff be even bigger heroes this holiday season. Would you and/or your community group consider purchasing and/or collecting donations of gift cards that our staff can use to purchase holiday gifts for our guys? Our staff work tirelessly to ensure that each young man receives a gift from his personal wish list and that even those who arrive Christmas week will have gifts to open on Christmas morning. Attached is our gift card “wish list.” Donations of gift cards from these stores/companies in any denomination will go a long way toward giving boys a special gift.
