ALUMNI STORIES

  • “The one thing I learned was that time is precious. Don’t take things for granted. Use the time to grow and change.” ~ Alumnus, Devin

Devin came to Bonnie Brae as a scared and nervous 12 year old. Despite many setbacks along the way, he grew and began to believe in himself. According to Devin, his favorite staff member, Aleema, “never gave up on me. She really cares. She wanted me to succeed and she had faith in me.” Today Devin is about to begin his Senior year of college and his dream is to come back and work at Bonnie Brae because he “cannot wait to make a difference in people’s lives.”

  • “If it wasn’t for Bonnie Brae I wouldn’t be where I am now. I probably wouldn’t be here.” ~ Alumnus, Dustin

For Dustin, the difference happened in the school and in his cottage community. He was suicidal when he came to Bonnie Brae but staff pointed him toward success. “Coach,” Miss Nowicki and Miss Crane were his greatest influences. He now lives on his own in an apartment, works a full-time and a part time job.

  • “Bonnie Brae didn’t change me. It didn’t put out my fire. I am who I am. The same things that got me here are the same things that make me interesting and awesome today. I just didn’t know what to do with all of it then and now I do. Bonnie Brae provided me with the tools I needed to grow, problem-solve and evolve into the best rendition of me possible. It helped me discover strengths I didn’t know I had. I think of this place as a University of self-discovery and an opportunity to learn how to live as your truest self in a way that will benefit you the most.” ~ Alumnus, Frank Vignola
