Frisbee for Fun Returns for a Third Year
The students and staff at Bonnie Brae are always looking for fun, local activities they can partake in throughout the year. This month, they not only participated in, but hosted an event to help raise money for the school. The third annual Frisbee for Fun Ultimate Frisbee Fundraiser/ Competition sponsored by the Sell Family of Pottersville, was held on Sunday, October 15th at the Bonnie Brae Campus’ main field. Ten teams participated this year and more than $5,000 was raised.
Teams gathered from all over New Jersey and consisted of 7-11 players, including a coach and team captain. There were teams from North Hunterdon High School, Fireside Academy, West Morris Central High School, and Long Valley Middle School. There was even a team of local dads who joined the fun and fielded a team, calling themselves “The Bulging Discs.” Bonnie Brae had a team made up entirely of resident players, and they were generously sponsored by Station Partners of Morristown. There was a $20 minimum donation required from each player and some teams even went a step further by creating their own fundraising pages. The event has already raised $10,000 from the previous two years. This year, Lucas Teuber’s LPC Team from North Hunterdon High School took the trophy for Tournament Champions as well as the medal for “Top Fundraisers”. The “Ultimates” from North Hunterdon High School took the medals for Most Team Spirit/Most Creative Uniforms.
“These young people continue to inspire me in their efforts and commitment to helping our guys,” said Director of Development David Fox. “Their advocacy will make a difference long-term not only for the young men we help, but for raising awareness of the issues facing the youth we serve. I am really grateful to them.”
The idea of the event was brought to life by several local teens from North Hunterdon High School in 2015, who were part of a group called “Teens Helping Teens.” They were looking to make a difference in the lives of the boys at Bonnie Brae and worked hard to organize, recruit, and run logistics for the yearly fundraiser. In an effort to make the event bigger and better each year, the teens began setting target goals to bring in more sponsors and teams as well as raise more money for Bonnie Brae’s annual summer expedition to camp. This trip allows the boys at Bonnie Brae to have a summer vacation that so many other kids their age get to experience.
The staff and residents of Bonnie Brae would love to extend a huge thank you to everyone who volunteered their time, money, and services for the event, especially to those who sponsored the event including: The Sell Family of Pottersville, Max Spann Real Estate and Auction Co., Station Partners of Morristown, and ShopRite of Hunterdon County. These types of activities are an exciting way to help Bonnie Brae build relationships within the community and to give the boys greater opportunities with the money raised. They are already looking forward to next year’s Frisbee for Fun Ultimate Frisbee Fundraiser/ Competition!
