Is my cryptocurrency donation tax deductible?
Yes! Your cryptocurrency donation is tax deductible!
In fact, supporters who want to donate cryptocurrency are supporting our work in a tax-efficient way. Cryptocurrency donations provide 30% more income directly to our work than traditional cash gifts. The IRS currently classifies cryptocurrency donations as property, meaning they are not subject to capital gains tax and are tax-deductible on your return. Your contribution is tax-deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law. For example, for donors in the United States, the IRS has classified bitcoin as property for tax purposes. This means that when someone donates bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit like Bonnie Brae, donors do not have to pay capital gains tax and it is tax-deductible.
Will I get a receipt with my donation?
Yes! In order to receive a receipt with your donation, you must enter your email when prompted to in our widget above. You will automatically receive a receipt from receipts@thegivingblock.com as soon as the transaction is confirmed on the blockchain. This changes depending on the blockchain – you can refer to this guide for estimated and more information. Please note that you will receive a receipt every time you donate with our wallet address to the receipt you enter when generating the address.
Can I donate crypto and remain anonymous?
Yes! Crypto donations can be given anonymously, donors simply check a box within the donation widget. Donors also have the option to still receive a donation receipt, via The Giving Block directly, meaning that you can still claim your crypto donation on your return but you have retained your anonymity with Bonnie Brae (we understand so we don’t take it personally)
I need a wallet address to complete my donation. Where can I find it?
You can generate a wallet address by using our widget.
- Choose the currency you wish to donate
- Put in any amount for the pledge (don’t worry – receipts will match the actual amount donated
- Enter your donor information or choose to donate anonymously
Once you reach the third page, the widget will generate a dynamic wallet address you can use to complete your donation.
Why is the wallet address different every time?
When using The Giving Block widget, you’ll notice that a new wallet address is created every time. This is because The Giving Block uses dynamic wallet addresses. This is done to protect your privacy and ours. Doing so helps prevents third parties from viewing all of your transaction history simply by coping and pasting the wallet address or TXID into a block explorer. All addresses that are generated are associated with your donor information AND ours forever. This means that you can reuse the address as often as you’d like or you can generate a new one each time. It’s up to you. In some cases, users want to re-use an address because they’ve added it as a payout address in an app or smart contract.
NOTE: For ETH, after the first donation is sent, the address is converted to a smart contract.
What are NFTs and does Bonnie Brae accept them?
NFT stands for Non-Fungible Token. NFTs are tokens that we can use to represent ownership of unique items, such as art, collectibles or even real estate. NFTs are "so hot right now" for art collectors. However, there is also a potential use of NFT technology for digital identity tokens or land rights, which would open up financial markets to a huge number of people for whom the existing financial ecosystem (such as credit, loans or mortgages) are not currently accessible.
Bonnie Brae regularly accepts the proceeds from NFT sales, to donate the proceeds of your NFT, simply donate via our cryptocurrency widget.
What is an NFT image?
NFT images are an image in the form of a digital token. These tokens are then sold online. An NFT can be anything in digital form. For example, artwork, photographs, and animations can be converted into an NFT and sold online. The NFT is shaking up the art world.
How do you know if an image is an NFT?
Some of the best ways to verify the authenticity of an NFT include: Google’s reverse-check tool: Using Google’s reverse-check tool you can find out important information about any photo or image, like how many different variants exist, how long the image has been online, and when the image was first uploaded.

Yes! For US tax-payers, cryptocurrency donations, as per the IRS, are classed as property. This means that when you make a donation in crypto, you receive a tax deduction for the fair market value of the crypto at the time of the donation.
