Daniel Minuchin Conducts Training at Bonnie Brae

Licensed marriage and family therapist Daniel Minuchin is the son of famed therapist Salvador Minuchin, who developed structural family therapy. Bonnie Brae has long been a proponent of structural family therapy because our staff have seen first-hand, through their practice, its success in creating healthier dynamics by breaking cycles of dysfunctional family relationships. Clinical Director Jamie Rau said, “Bonnie Brae has a history of working with the Minuchin Center for Structural Family Therapy. In the late 1990’s for a period of ten years Emma Genijovich from the Minuchin Center provided staff training and case consultation. As an agency we have always placed great importance on the engagement of families and understand the necessity of providing effective family therapy. For the past 25 years we have utilized the Structural Model of Family Therapy and it is a cornerstone of our clinical services. The recent three day training provided by Daniel Minuchin is a continuation of our working relationship with the Minuchin Center. We are committed to providing our clinical staff with the skills and abilities to effectively provide quality clinical care for our youths and their families. As Clinical Director I am pleased to provide this opportunity to our new generation of clinical staff. I am happy to see the relationship with the Minuchin Center revitalized.
Class attendees are provided with an in-depth analysis of the video recordings of Dr. Salvador Minuchin and other senior structural family therapists, discussions of cases presented by the participants and role plays of the application of theory to practice. After completion of the training, participating staff members will put this valuable education into practice working with Bonnie Brae youth and families; providing an intervention to break historic, cyclical dysfunctional family relationship patterns and working to incorporate healthier communication patterns that foster long-term healing and future success.
This is the first training to take place in the newly opened “Osborne Family Resource Center” and Bonnie Brae CEO Paul Rieger visions this new space providing training and education not just for the Bonnie Brae community but for youth and families from surrounding communities. “We hope to share our 100 years of expertise healing youth and families struggling with addictions, mental and behavioral health challenges with local families. This new space provides us with the space to open our doors to the community as well as to partner with other agencies and entities in providing education that is current and topical in fostering improved health, healing and awareness."
