Van Houten House Resident Receives Scholarship

As we prepare for the back to school season, we are excited to share some great news about Anthony, a resident of our Van Houten House, who is getting ready to begin his freshman year at college.
After putting forth a great deal of hard work and effort, Anthony recently graduated from the local vocational-technical high school. This was an incredible milestone, especially considering the many challenges he has faced and continues to face. The entire Bonnie Brae community was proud of him, but what pleased us even more was when he was awarded the 2018 Carol Levasseur Memorial Scholarship for his “dedication to the arts and commitment to continue his studies to pursue a professional career.”
Anthony discovered a strength while attending high school; through his involvement in the Graphic Communications Program he fostered a talent in creative writing and poetry. After receiving the honor, Anthony was featured in the local newspaper (to see the article, click here).
After reading about Anthony in the newspaper, a nameless subscriber was so moved by Anthony’s efforts that she offered to match this scholarship. Anthony intends to honor these gifts when he begins college this fall at Raritan Valley Community College, the beginning of a journey, hopefully to becoming a Literature teacher.
