Bonnie Brae Residential Treatment Center

Bonnie Brae is a residential treatment center that provides comprehensive care for troubled, at-risk youth. Central to all clinical treatment plans is the forming of positive relationships between the children and our knowledgeable, professional staff. This is accomplished through 24/7 care, guidance, and support. Since Bonnie Brae was founded in 1916 by Judge Harry Osborne, our residential services have expanded exponentially into three groups:
  1. On-campus residential services. Bonnie Brae’s main campus is located on 100, beautiful acres in New Jersey. There are plenty of activities for our boys to do that will nourish their minds and bodies. Many of our residents arrive to us after experiencing abuse, neglect, and violence and living in an average of five, out of home placements. They need a place to stabilize their issues and make progress. When boys first arrive at Bonnie Brae, they are placed in one of four, state of the art, LEED Silver certified cottages. There, they are guided by cottage supervisors and clinical staff, and assigned a roommate. Once they make significant progress in their living situation, the boys are then moved along the continuum into cottages where they are allowed more independence and privileges. They will learn to cook their own meals and some will even have jobs in the community.
  2. Off-campus community based transitional living homes. Some of the young men that have excelled in the program will move into one of the community-based transitional living homes. These are located in New Brunswick, Bound Brook and Bridgewater and enable us to continue the healing process. Residents learn essential life skills, attend school in the community, obtain employment, and are connected to local community services. During this experience, they learn about relationship building, communicating, managing conflict, developing friendships, and healthy behavior.
  3. Aftercare Program. After the boys graduate from the on-campus residential cottages and transitional living homes, Bonnie Brae provides an Aftercare Program. We understand that our service cannot end once the men are off-campus. The Program helps former residents bridge the delicate transition to their home communities or to independent living. Aftercare counselors help young men to: find affordable housing; continue their education; build support systems; and identify community connections.
Bonnie Brae’s residential services allow our staff to see the boys holistically. This better enables us to provide a treatment plan specific to each person’s individual needs. Upon completion of the program, the boys will have experienced tremendous personal growth. Accredited by the Joint Commission, Bonnie Brae is one of the nation’s preeminent residential treatment centers for at-risk adolescent boys who have been neglected, abused, or abandoned. We provide a safe place for boys and young men in crisis, ages 8-21, a place for them to heal, to learn and to grow. We have helped over 10,000 boys and families since our founding in 1916. Please contact us today to learn how you can make a positive difference in a young man’s life.
