“As Brae Builders, We are Brothers,” — Elijah
At our Friends and Family night last month, our annual creative writing publication, The Highlander, made its 2017 debut. One of the poems featured was by our Brae Builder, Elijah. Read his heartfelt words on what the Brae Builders program has meant to him:
We learn how to create-
We learn how to demolish-
We learn new math skills-
We learn new knowledge-
We help people who have nothing.
Look at a dirt piece of land-
And make it into something.
Something that shelters
Women, children and men.
We're helping them with our bare hands
We are a glimpse of light in their darkness.
We create new hearts for those who are heartless-
We make a new name for ourselves - and others.
As Brae Builders, we are brothers.
