Catrel was born and raised in a rough part of north Philadelphia. He recalls growing up around violence and hearing gunshots in his neighborhood. When he was sixteen he was admitted into Bonnie Brae because he was getting into a lot of fights and his mother couldn’t take care of him anymore. Upon arrival, he was not happy to be at Bonnie Brae, but now finds his time here fun. He has become very involved in track, basketball and the drum line. Because of Bonnie Brae, Catrel is now able to control his attitude and hopes to one day be a school principal.
