Bonnie Brae Director Writes Children's Book "Pinky Promise"
posted 7/13/2004 | archive

Vanita Braver, Psychiatric Medical Director at Bonnie Brae and child and adolescent psychiatrist at Morristown Memorial Hospital presents a new children’s book called Pinky Promise.
Pinky Promise is a book about telling the truth. Five-year-old Madison didn’t mean to break the camera, but she didn’t want to get in trouble, either, so she lied when her mom asked what happened. But now she feels guilty, her stomach hurts, and she can’t eat. With the help of her parents and her favorite stuffed bear, Honesty, Madison learns the importance of telling the truth and how much better it feels to be honest.
Recounted with tenderness and authenticity, Pinky Promise is the first book in Dr. Vanita Braver’s nine-book Teach Your Children Well series. Based on the latest positive parenting and child development research, the series conveys vital lessons about values to young readers. In each story, one of Madison’s stuffed animals – Wisdom the Owl, Courage the Lion, Honesty the Bear, and Hope the Bluebird – helps her reflect upon her actions and make the right decision.
“This all too common moral dilemma is conveyed in crisp, believable language and should be very helpful in creating a dialogue on the importance of truth between parents and young children.” William M. Powers, MHA, MPA, Chief Executive Officer of Bonnie Brae Residential Treatment Center.
“Pinky Promise is superb! The story is warm, sweet, and simply wonderful. Dr. Braver captures the magic of storytelling, accompanied by beautiful, whimsical illustrations.” Brian Kempner, Esq., President of the New York Observer
Publication Date: November 2004
